Sam Jedig’s(b. 1959, Denmark)
works raise a question about how we interpret ourselves and reality as
it is presented to us through the steady flow of images of mass
culture. The fragments of images in the works have been removed from
their original context in what concerns both time and place. The safe
and well-known world is turned upside-down by these new and unexpected
juxtapositions. Sam Jedig’s point is that this “real world” only exists
as long as we, together, maintain and confirm its existence.
We live in a world where the control of the perfect body is a crucial
criterion of success and where we, whether we want to or not, all
pursue this exteriority. In some of the works the body elements is
dismantled and made incoherent. The transformed body thus becomes an
enticing as well as frightening new toy.
Since the beginning of the 1980’s, Sam Jedig has worked with art, but,
parallel to his work as an artist, he has also worked as a curator
through Stalke Gallery and Stalke Out of Space.
