Anne Bennike (b. 1974) uses drawing as an escape from reality, as a way
to approach dreams while awake. The drawings are inspired by travels
and day-to-day observations, but are combined with dream-like visions.
Just like the night’s dreams are a distortion of the day’s occurrences,
her drawings distort reality, seen through an emotional filter. As with
dreams, this filter is not always transparent or comprehensible, but it
is psychologically titillating, like a strange fairy-tale. Bennike
creates a dream-like, poetical universe that is light and dark at the
same time.
Anne Bennike has exhibited through Stalke Galleri since 2001.
