‘I REFUSE TO BATTLE’
24.10.08-14.11.08
Bella Angoras solo show 'I refuse to battle' can be perceived as a very
personal reflection of a psychological process, which thematizes the
decision to let go certain kinds of fighting manners. We are all
confronted with different fights like the fight for appreciation,
success, money and love. The decision not to fight anymore is a strong
statement, in a world which is dominated by fighting mentalities, and
can therefore be perceived as a critical expression to that. The reason
behind the refusal to fight is not one based on resignation, instead it
is about the realization that it is possible to win without to fight,
if one is able to trust ones own capabilities and furthermore is aware
of the fact that the ‘real enemy’ is not to be found outside.
The Performance "I refuse to battle – I am not afraid to love", which
Bella Angora will present at the opening, is a combination of live
sound and video. Each song/video reflects one further step of
development. Furthermore the music is meant to transport certain kinds
of feelings that come along with the decision not to battle anymore.
It will also be possible to see Bella Angoras latest drawings, the
video installation “stAR.T – be the next performance art star” of the
art performance casting show which Angora produced in Austria this
summer and a big wall object which has been made during her residency
in Copenhagen. All the presented works thematize competitive behavior
within an art scene and the attempt to find new strategies in order to
the artist position within an art market.
The CPH AIR residency at the Factory of Art and Design invited Bella
Angora and 4 other Austrian artists to come to Denmark this autumn. The
CPH AIR residency was established to strengthen the cultural exchange
and network between Copenhagen and international artists, by the City
of Copenhagen in collaboration with the Factory of Art and Design. The
program makes it possible to invite international artists and writers
to stay and work in Denmark for a longer or shorter period of time. For
