William Anthony

At Art Cologne in April, Stalke, in collaboration with Thomas Rehbein Galerie, had the great pleasure of presenting William Anthony at Collaboration. The presentation received considerable attention from the German art scene and was therefore followed up by two exhibitions: first at Stalke Galleri and the following week, in connection with DC-OPEN in Cologne at Thomas Rehbein Galerie, with an opening on September 4.

William Anthony (New York) mercilessly caricatured everything from war to the art world, as well as the joys and madness of love. Anthony explained that his style originated from the drawing mistakes made by his least talented students.

The New York Timeswrote that Anthony was “hilarious” and “profound,” meaning both insanely funny and deep at the same time, and that he had achieved cult status in the art world.

In connection with William Anthony’s exhibition in 2013, IRONIC ICONSat Stalke Galleri, a book featuring William Anthony’s complete works from the 1960s to the present was published. The book, titled IRONIC ICONS, was edited by Sam Jedig with a foreword by Jacob Lillemose, who had followed the artist for many years.
